What is MCE?
-NGO/
NPO to organize workcamps and other voluntary projects in Mongolia
-Vice
President of NVDA (Network for Voluntary Development in Asia)
-Partner
of ALLIANCE, SCI and YAP
1)Brief
History
When: MCE was
established on January 11th,
2001 by an individual who had participated in the 3rd
Training & Networking Workcamp of NVDA in Vietnam.
Why: Before 2000,
there were no workcamp organizations or international voluntary service
in Mongolia. However, there was much need for international voluntary projects
to improve a Mongolian society. Through practical work projects, MCE hopes
to encourage public awareness of Mongolia's social problems and promote
local actions.
2)
Aims
a)To create/ develop/
revive ecological, self sufficient and warm-hearted civilization.
We promote
exciting voluntary actions by fresh ideas and mobility as a youth NPO, to
shift the world with too much competition and expansion into more healthy
one for both nature and people.
b) To encourage
activities of NGO/NPOs and activation of local communities
We create
opportunities to meet new people and to start new actions by involving many
locals. We make bridges between isolated NPOs and local people, and invite
youth to depopulated areas.
c) To promote global
friendship, understanding and solidarity
We grow exchange
naturally among world youth and local people through living, working, talking
and laughing together.
They can improve
global views/ sensitivity and language/ planning skills.
3)
Activities
a)To organize
international
workcamps in Mongolia
with local partners and people
b) To
send
volunteers from Mongolia
to workcamps
c) To

workcamps by MCE
1)
Introduction
We welcome you to join our workcamps, sharing
happy time and creating fresh new age together! All
campsites have nice nature, blue
sky
and warm people, so you will discover nomadic
life & culture of
Mongolia.
The common points of all workcamps are
such as follows;
|
a)
Age limit : From 18
(No maximum) |
2)
How to apply and join the projects!?
A: Applying through the partners!!
Volunteers
have to apply not directly
to us, but through our partner Workcamp Organizations (WOs) of their own countries unless
you live in Mongolia or in countries that have no partners. In this exceptional
case, they need to send the application form to MCE.
B: How much should volunteers pay? Volunteers
have to pay the travel cost
to/ from workcamps & the following
registration
& participation
fee to partners &
to MCE.
|
a)
Partner
WO's charging some registration fee from sending volunteers
: This
depends
of each partner * |
* Most of Asian/ European/ North American partners are
C: The detailed information of the project
By 1-2 months before the projects, volunteers
will receive ¡±Information Sheets¡± (details of
the project,
what to bring, the meeting point, how to get there, etc.) together with
¡°Acceptance
Letter and ¡°MCE
Volunteers Guide, through
the partner organizations.
D: Book
the flights as soon as being accepted!
Don¡¯t
wait
for the Information Sheets, otherwise you may miss economical flights! All
workcamps in Mongolia, we will pick volunteers up from the airport or train
station.
Workcamps start in the
afternoon of the first day.
And they
finish in
the afternoon of the last day. So, we advise
volunteers to arrive / leave Mongolia at
least a few days before/ after the projects also because volunteers
should not expect so much sightseeing during the projects.(if
you want to do it, please do it before/ after the workcamps!) And it is
quite possible to
stay in the cheap guest houses (4-6$
per night) together with volunteers in the same workcamps before/ after
the workcamps! (For the details, wait for the info.sheets!)

AND JAPANESE!!!
Organized
together with NICE
(Never-ending International workCamps Exchange) and university
students
since 2001. From 1990, Mongolia transferred into free market economy. From
that, we Mongolians started to study foreign, especially Japanese, histories

W: The main work will
be to teach & practise
Japanese language, song, history
to the students and
that can be advantage for them to find
jobs and also to exchange with Japanese volunteers,
in the future.
Also we will organize
some activities to exchange culture as well as voluntary
works in the orphanage by teaching Japanese/English. We may also do some
workshops with them for Asian common actions of NVDA for forests and kids
prostitution (bracelet project).

25/Apr-08/May
ENVI 15
Organized
together with NICE (Never-ending International workCamps Exchange) and supported
by Greening Asia fund since 2002.
The forests
problem is serious also in Mongolia.
Before 1990,
the forests are covered
10%
of land, but
7%
today.
It's caused
by cutting trees without any controls and forest fire. It takes a
long time here to grow trees and the current and water level of river has
been decreased.
May is the
best season to plant trees.
W: We will plant
trees
in Mongolian workCamps
Exchange`s camp
and some other place.
This is the best
season in
Mongolia for
planting trees.
There are
increasing activities by some organizations to plant trees but it takes
a
hundred or
more years to be grown, so we should also join this movement by global power!

AGRI/KIDS
Vol-20(Same
as MCE/06) / FULL
Organized
together with NICE
(Never-ending International workCamps Exchange) and CCM (Childcare Center of
Mongolia) since 2001. Childcare Center
of Mongolia is the only, national Orphanage where about 300 kids who have
no parents live and study together. They get much less financial support
by the government than socialism age.
CCM has a simple residential
building and a big field where they produce
vegetables such as carrots, radish, onions, etc. just enough for their meals
all year (they keep it 4 meter under the ground for one year that is a quite
magic!)
The vegetables are very purely organic
and very tasty and kids are very nice!
W: We will work together
with the orphans
aged 12-15 to remove the weeds in the field
like last
year. Quite tiring
but let's
enjoy it
with them!
4
groups of 30 kids come here for each 2 weeks in July

Greening
Asia
This
is one of the biggest activities of NVDA (Network for Voluntary Development
in Asia) and has been quite successfully.
1)
Prospected Results & basic points
a) Regenerate the neglected
forest in Asia ecologically
b) Spread the action
/ movement to other locals and government
c) Shift our life style
/ economic system / civilization into circulating / harmonious one; etc
Coordinators :
NVDA members (International information office is at NICE, Japan)
Participants : Any other local/ national NGOs, civil
groups, etc. are very welcome!
PR : Through web. &
newsletters of NVDA, mass-media, newsletters of each NGOs, etc.
2) Forms and Main results in 2001
1) International
workcamps for tree planting
In 2001, 45
international
workcamps in 8 countries (Japan, Korea,
Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia, Mongolia, Bangladesh & Australia) thousands
of foreign/
local volunteers planted over
60,000
trees.
2) Other
practical voluntary works to protect forests
Over 60
international/ weekend workcamps have protected forests by other ways
such as cutting glasses,
bushed and unnecessary trees, making wood charcoal, etc.
3) Greening
Asia Fund to support each activities of A1)
This Fund consists of donations,
support from sponsoring foundations and fund raising. We aim to get 30,000 US$ though we've got
only
15
% till now¡¦
The fund will be
used to support tree planting workcamps in other Asian countries. Partner
NGOs in Asia are NVDA members who are used to plant trees and capable to
maintain them after the plantation.
In February 2002,
we used this hopeful fund at the planting
tree workcamp in Fiji as the first case.
Bracelet Project
Child prostitution is very serious in Asia caused by poverty, lack of moral, education, etc. This is a new action of NVDA to extermination child prostitution. This is a simple but concrete way that anybody can contribute to reduce it.
1) Organizing
workshop and making bracelets at the workcamps, schools, etc.
These Bracelets
made by volunteers become a symbol for against child prostitution. Through
workshop, process of making it, participants get to think of this problem.
We have organized workshops 12 times in
4
countries and have
made over 500
piece of Bracelets in 2001.
2) Selling
Bracelets and raising fund
We sell them
in Japan, etc. which profit will be used to
support NGOs to prevent this problem.
3) Exchanging
Bracelets among children
Bracelets
are also used to make friendship and solidarity among children by exchanging
it.
